Lynn Rose speaks to groups on UV sun protection strategies and how to manufacture hats, handbags and accessory items. Her talks and seminars include:

1. Health and Wellness: Smart Steps for Skin and Sun Protection

When my husband, Jerry, called from the dermatologist’s office that fateful day, his message changed our world forever. Jerry had just been diagnosed with Stage IV malignant melanoma. That’s as bad as it gets. There is no Stage V. So I started researching the minute after I heard the diagnosis, and continued researching even after the melanoma went to his brain.

Ultimately, my husband died from the disease, but there are many steps others can take to avoid his fate. This program helps young people, “seasoned citizens”, people of color and fair skinned folks too. Participants will hear real life case studies, up-to-date research and sun protective tips to achieve higher levels of overall health and wellness.

By the end of this program, participants will have learned:

  • why people of color have lower incidences of skin cancer but a poor diagnosis when they get it, and what can be done to prevent it
  • how to get the most UV protection possible
  • why it’s never too late to take preventative measures
  • the difference between standard fabrics and UV protective fabrics
  • current research on sun exposure and skin damage
  • why tanning salons really ARE worse than sunlight
  • why incidences of skin cancer are growing every year
  • simple steps to protect your skin for greater health and wellness

2. Small Business Manufacturing Strategies: How to Manufacture and Market Hats, Handbags, Sun Umbrellas and Accessory Products

As a result of my husband’s death from skin cancer, I’ve dedicated my life to helping others prevent skin cancer. My UV protective product business, Soleil Chic, was born from the experience of losing my husband to this terrible disease and vowing to do something constructive as a result of it! Since that day, I’ve learned a great deal about how to manufacture my UV sun protective products, including hats, handbags and sun umbrellas.

Now, I teach others how to create, manufacture and market handbags and other accessory products. This in-depth, how-to based program is designed to cover the “nuts and bolts” of design, development and selling. By the end of this program, participants will have learned how to:

  • Name your business and your products
  • Differentiate yourself from the competition
  • Find mentors, contractors, graphic designers, suppliers and manufacturers
  • Create storyboards and the benefits of using them
  • Deal with non-disclosures
  • Learn the ropes of textile shows
  • Conduct informal market research
  • Create a catchy press kit
  • Deal with handles, connectors, zippers, leather and lining
  • …and much, much more!
